Consultant & Coach
Dr Michele Toner OAM coaches people with ADHD across Australia and around the world. She has a PhD and a Master of Special Education in the area of ADHD. Originally, she qualified and worked as a teacher before pursuing other career paths, including radio and television production in an advertising agency and audio-visual production with her husband in their own small business.
Ultimately, she was led back to teaching and to ADHD.
Her Masters thesis, entitled "Adults with ADHD; Living in Chaos and Striving for Control", explored the lives of adults with ADHD who were undiagnosed as children. Her PhD thesis investigated the experiences of university students diagnosed with ADHD, identifying strategies to help them with their studies and personal lives as they went through various “Stages of Developing Empowerment”.
Michele started supporting people with ADHD and their families in a part-time capacity in 1995 when she started volunteering with ADHD WA (previously the Learning and Attentional Disorders Society - LADS), in many capacities, including Chair of the Board of Management.
She was also an inaugural Board member of ADHD Australia, and the Australian Association on ADHD Professionals (AADPA). In her ongoing advocacy work she has witnessed numerous ADHD success stories unfold, and these inspired her to start practising as a fulltime ADHD consultant and coach in 2009.
Michele is passionate about helping people of all ages with ADHD to achieve their goals, and to change their lives for the better. She also works hard to educate others about ADHD. Sought after as a speaker at conferences and public functions, Michele inspires professionals and members of the general public to learn more about ADHD, and to support those with the diagnosis.
Respect for the people she works with drives Michele to have the best possible qualifications required to serve them. Aside from her academic achievements and hands-on ADHD experience, Michele’s coach training is extensive.
She completed her basic studies with CoachU in 2009, and was awarded the credential of Associate Certified Coach (ACC) by the International Coach Federation (ICF) in 2010. She then went on to study advanced coaching techniques with the ADD Coach Academy (ADDCA) and was awarded the credential of Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the ICF in 2013.
Michele was the first credentialed ADHD coach in Australia, and now works with new coaches as a trainer and mentor to develop and promote ADHD coaching in Australasia. She is a member of the teaching faculty at the ADD Coach Academy (ADDCA), and a registered mentor coach with the International Coach Federation.
Your expertise and knowledge are absolutely top class. What a blessing our doctor told us about you last year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Michele, you are a superstar. (Lisa, Perth)
